How to choose a moisturiser

Match your moisturiser to your skin type rather than to price or packaging. Dry skin tends to suit richer creams with ingredients like ceramides, glycerin or shea butter, while oily and combination skin often prefers a lightweight gel or gel-cream that hydrates without feeling heavy. If your skin is prone to breakouts, look for non-comedogenic on the label. Apply moisturiser after your serums, ideally onto slightly damp skin to help lock in water. In the morning, always follow with SPF. A good moisturiser supports your skin barrier and helps skin feel comfortable, not tight, throughout the day.

Does oily skin need a moisturiser?

Yes. Skipping moisturiser will not reduce oil, and can leave skin dehydrated, which may prompt it to produce more oil to compensate. Choose a lightweight, water-based gel or gel-cream labelled non-comedogenic so you hydrate without clogging pores. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid add water, while niacinamide can help balance the look of excess oil.

What order do I apply my skincare?

A useful rule is thinnest to thickest. After cleansing, apply watery serums first (such as vitamin C or hyaluronic acid), then any heavier treatments, then your moisturiser to seal everything in. In the morning, finish with SPF as the final step. Allow a few seconds between layers so each one has time to absorb.

Should I moisturise morning and night?

For most people, twice daily works well. In the morning it hydrates before SPF and make-up; at night it supports the skin barrier while you sleep. If your skin feels comfortable with once a day, that is fine too. Apply to slightly damp skin, and adjust how rich your formula is with the seasons if skin feels tight or greasy.
