How to build a body-care routine that works

Body care comes down to two things: cleansing gently and locking in moisture. Choose a wash that does not leave skin feeling tight — cream and oil-based formulas suit dry or sensitive skin, while gels feel fresher on oilier skin. Exfoliating scrubs smooth rough patches and help moisturisers absorb better, but two to three times a week is plenty for most people. The single most useful habit is moisturising within about three minutes of showering, while skin is still slightly damp, as this helps trap water before it evaporates. Lotions absorb quickly for everyday use; richer body oils and butters suit very dry skin or a post-shower glow. Patch-test new products first.

Because body products are used daily and over large areas, ingredient quality and skin tolerance really matter. This collection is curated for formulas that feel good, absorb well and meet a clear standard.

Category questions

When should I apply body lotion?

Apply it while your skin is still slightly damp, ideally within about three minutes of showering or bathing. Dermatology bodies call this the three-minute rule — damp skin helps the moisturiser trap water before it evaporates, so hydration lasts longer. Pat skin gently rather than rubbing it fully dry, then smooth lotion over while there is still a little moisture.

How often should I exfoliate my body?

For most skin types, two to three times a week is enough to lift dead skin cells and smooth rough texture without stripping the skin barrier. If your skin is dry or sensitive, once or twice a week is plenty. Thicker areas like elbows, knees and feet can handle more; delicate areas need less. Tightness, redness or stinging are signs to cut back.

Should I use body oil or body lotion?

Both hydrate, but differently. Water-based lotions absorb quickly and suit everyday use, while oils are richer and sit on top to seal moisture in, giving a subtle glow. You can use either — or layer them. If combining, apply lotion first for water-based hydration, then oil on top to lock it in. Oils work especially well on damp skin after showering.
