Choosing an eau de parfum
Eau de parfum (EDP) sits between eau de toilette and pure parfum, typically containing around 15 to 20 per cent perfume oil. That higher concentration means richer projection and longer wear — usually six to eight hours — so two to four sprays are plenty. Like any fragrance, an EDP reveals itself in stages: fresh top notes first, a floral, spicy or fruity heart after a few minutes, then a woody, amber or musky base that lingers longest. Because your body heat and skin type shape how these notes develop, spray it on your wrist and give it at least half an hour before deciding. What smells lovely on a paper strip can behave quite differently on skin.

Is eau de parfum stronger than eau de toilette?
Yes. Eau de parfum holds more perfume oil — around 15 to 20 per cent, roughly double an eau de toilette 5 to 15 per cent. That makes it richer, longer-lasting (about six to eight hours versus four to six) and more noticeable, so you need fewer sprays. It is not automatically better, though: eau de toilette lighter feel can suit hot days or the office, while eau de parfum shines in the evening.
How many sprays of eau de parfum should I use?
Two to four sprays is usually enough for an eau de parfum, thanks to its higher oil concentration. Target warm pulse points such as the neck, wrists and inner elbows, and build up gradually — you can always add more. Remember you will stop noticing your own scent long before other people do, so resist the urge to over-apply.
Why can I not smell my own eau de parfum after a while?
This is olfactory fatigue, or nose blindness. After a few minutes of constant exposure, your brain filters out the familiar scent so it can stay alert to new smells — it does not mean the perfume has faded. Other people can usually still smell it. To check, ask someone else, or step outside and re-sniff after a break.
