When and how to use a hair mask

A hair mask is essentially a deep treatment: richer and more concentrated than a daily conditioner, and designed to stay on longer so ingredients can work into the hair. It is best thought of as an occasional repair step rather than an everyday one. Most hair does well with a mask around once or twice a week, left on for roughly five to ten minutes before rinsing. Drier, coarser, curly or coloured hair tends to benefit most. Because masks are heavier, using them too often can cause build-up and leave hair looking flat, so let condition and hair type guide how frequently you reach for one.

How long should I leave a hair mask on?
